WaterSense is an EPA labeling program that identifies toilets, showerheads, faucets, and other fixtures that use at least 20% less water than federal standards while maintaining performance.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the WaterSense label to mark plumbing fixtures that deliver water efficiency without sacrificing performance. A WaterSense-certified fixture meets strict flow-rate thresholds set below federal minimum standards.
For toilets, WaterSense models use no more than 4.8 gallons per flush, compared to the federal standard of 6 gallons per flush. Showerheads certified under the program deliver 2 gallons per minute or less, versus the federal requirement of 2.5 gallons per minute. Faucets bearing the label flow at 1.5 gallons per minute or less at standard test pressure, down from the federal cap of 2.2 gallons per minute.
